The imagery is not printed — it is hand-applied leather appliqué: individual pieces of coloured leather, cut and placed with the patience and precision of the Hermès atelier at its most committed, building up the Californian landscape in layers of material rather than ink. Each mountain form, each band of sky, each strip of highway is its own piece of leather, applied individually to the Gris Perle body and finished to a seamless, unified composition.
