Chanel SS14 Artclass Black Canvas Small Graffiti Backpack
Karl Lagerfeld's Spring/Summer 2014 Artclass show turned the Grand Palais into a contemporary art gallery, and the Graffiti Backpack became its defining accessory: a Chanel piece that looked as if it had been pulled straight from an artist's studio. Of the three colourways produced, black is by a wide margin the hardest to find, in the Small and Large size alike. This is the Small, in black.
Black — The Rarest of the Three Colourways
The black colourway is the least frequently seen of all Graffiti Backpacks on the secondary market, and it offers the most dramatic take on the design. A deep charcoal base, washed and brushed to look hand-painted, carries the oversized CC logo in bold black, while the stencilled "31 Rue Cambon Paris" on the front pocket stands out in stark off-white. Flecks of red, blue and ochre paint across the canvas give every example its own character. It is the most graphic and urban reading of the Artclass concept, and the colourway collectors search for longest.
The Small Format
The Graffiti Backpack was produced in two sizes, Large and Small. The Small is the more compact and wearable of the two and was made in lower quantities, concentrating the print into a tighter, more striking composition. Combined with the black colourway, it is a configuration that rarely comes up for sale.
Construction & Details
The backpack features a zip-top main compartment, a front zip pocket with the double CC metal pendant, and ruthenium (dark silver-tone) hardware. The multicoloured braided rope accessory with carabiners adds the collection's signature studio-meets-street detail.
Condition
Kept in very good condition throughout. The only point to note is that the braided rope charm is missing; otherwise the backpack presents beautifully. Offered as the bag only.
