The Bolide — The Bag That Brought Hermès the Zip

Designed in 1923 for drivers and long-distance travellers to slip into the trunk of a car, the Bolide was built around a then-novel fastening: the zip, which Émile Hermès had discovered in North America at the end of the 1910s and brought back to France. It is widely regarded as the first zippered handbag, and that closure gave the bag its legendary rounded shape and quick, secure access. A century on, the Bolide remains one of the most historically significant silhouettes in the Hermès canon.

The Messenger — Poussière Togo, Suede-Soft Within

The Messenger strips the Bolide back to its most casual form: it drops the signature twin top handles and leather strap in favour of a wide, adjustable canvas shoulder strap (40–65 cm), worn over the shoulder or across the body. Crafted in Togo — Hermès' durable, matte, scratch-resistant grained calf — it keeps the curved dome shape and adds a zip top and an interior back pocket. The interior is left unlined, revealing the naturally soft, suede-like underside of the thick Togo itself: a beautiful tactile detail and a mark of how the leather is used in its purest form. Polished palladium hardware and a clochette with padlock and keys complete the piece. The K stamp dates it to 2025.
