SS14 Artclass — Lagerfeld at His Most Disruptive
The SS14 "Artclass" show was Lagerfeld deliberately pulling Chanel into dialogue with contemporary art and street culture — a decisive break from the house's polished codes, and today regarded as one of the most important accessory moments of his entire tenure. The backpack became a street-style phenomenon the moment it appeared, carried by the era's most photographed figures, and the canvas pieces from this collection have since become some of the most sought-after Chanel collectibles on the secondary market, appreciating steadily as the collection's cultural weight grows.
The Large Graffiti Backpack — A Canvas, Literally
The body is printed and treated to look as though it were lifted straight off a Parisian street wall: soft watercolour washes, a large stencilled CC, dripped-ink effects, and the legendary "31 Rue Cambon Paris" — Chanel's historic address — spray-painted across the lower front panel. It is finished with aged ruthenium hardware, a complex braided paracord strap and shoulder straps, a removable interlocking-CC charm and a luggage tag. Front zip pocket, large main zip compartment, Made in Italy. Every detail is engineered to read as raw and hand-made while being executed to full Chanel standard — couture dressed as graffiti.
An Unused Store Sample
This example is a genuine boutique store sample — a display piece that never entered normal retail circulation — and it is untouched and never used. Beyond the ordinary rarity of the SS14 backpack, that provenance makes it a true collector's find. The only note is minor scratching to the hardware; the canvas and print are pristine. Supplied as a full set with its original box and authenticity card. No dust bag.
